Ranger-Led Field Trips

Ranger-led field trips are offered throughout the school year in the park. These trips cover a variety of topics and are scheduled for a minimum of 2.5 hours to allow for a guided grounds tour, 1/2 an hour lunch break, and hands-on activities. To add additional components such as Fishing with a Ranger, or a self guided tour of the main house at Oakland, your visit may need to be longer.

Individual field trip programs are limited to 35 students; if you have a larger group, register for additional field trip. (we can conduct multiple field trip programs on most days). Please plan on having roughly a a 1:7 ratio of students to chaperones.

To book your program email our education office or call 318-352-0383 ext 316.

Transportation Funding

If you need assistance for your school group to travel to the park, up to $350 in transportation grants may be available through the Cane River National Heritage Area. Contact us at 318-352-0383, ext 200 to learn more about transportation grants.

Participating in Public Tours

Groups wishing to bring their class to the park, without the lessons and activities from the education rangers can schedule their class to attend a standard grounds tour. View current schedule for public tours to see if this would better suit your needs. This a great option for classes looking to spend less than two hours at the park.

Please note, that this option for tours is also open for the general public. Education groups should anticipate having other park visitors on their tour with them.

Self-Guided Field Trip

If our educational programs do not meet your needs, consider organizing your own class field trip to the park! The following resources will help in planning your visit.
