NATIONAL JUNIOR RANGER DAY Capitol Reef National Park will join hundreds of parks throughout the United States in celebrating National Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 28, 2007. A day of youth-friendly activities is planned from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Ripple Rock Nature Center, located next to the picnic area on the Scenic Drive. Scheduled activities include guided hikes, opportunities to meet and interview park rangers, making plaster casts of animal tracks, and playing pioneer games. Activities will focus on the National Park Service’s Junior Ranger motto, “Explore, Learn, Protect: Be a Junior Ranger.” The National Park Service is honoring Junior Rangers with commemorative patches, campaign pins and certificates. Children will be able to obtain these items by participating in ranger led talks and activities. Children who complete the Junior Ranger Activity Booklet on this day will earn a Junior Ranger badge, an embroidered commemorative Junior Ranger Day patch and a Capitol Reef coloring book. A one-dollar charge for the self-guided Junior Ranger Booklet defrays printing costs. Participation in ranger-conducted activities and admission to the Ripple Rock Nature Center are free.
