Winter is a wonderful time to explore Capitol Reef. “Hiking in the off-season gives visitors a chance to experience solitude,” says park volunteer Angela Oppelt. Visitors can enjoy dark night skies, few crowds on the trails, and quiet camping. Please join the staff at Capitol Reef to celebrate the holiday season on Friday, December 8th. At 2:00 p.m. Loa Elementary school children will decorate the holiday tree and sing holiday songs. This year’s theme is the starry night sky in honor of the park’s international dark sky designation. Refreshments will be provided. The Capitol Reef Natural History Association bookstore will offer a 20% discount on all items on December 8, 9, and 10, 2017. Proceeds support park operations. More information about Capitol Reef National Park can be found at www.nps.gov/care and about Capitol Reef Natural History Association at www.capitolreefnha.org.
