MOAB, UT— In late afternoon on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, National Park Service rangers responded to a report of CPR in progress on Mesa Arch Trail in Canyonlands National Park. Lois Marcasciano, a 76-year-old woman from Pittsgrove, NJ, had collapsed near the trailhead and was receiving care from bystanders. Personnel from San Juan County Sheriff’s Department, Grand County EMS, and Classic Air Medical also responded. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the patient was pronounced deceased at the scene.
San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are investigating this incident. No additional information is available at this time.
