All National Park Service sites, including Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument and Hovenweep National Monument, will offer free visitor admission on September 29, 2007 for National Public Lands Day. In addition to waiving entrance fees, the parks will host the following special programs:
Arches National Park
- 9:30-11:30 a.m.: Porch Talks on the Visitor Center Plaza
- 10:00 a.m.: Guided Walk : "A Place for Everything" at the Windows
- 4:00 p.m.: Guided Walk: "Our Changing World" at the Windows
- 8:00 p.m.: Evening Program: "The Nature of Sound" at the Campground Amphitheater
Canyonlands National Park Needles District (weather permitting)
- 9:00-11:00 a.m.: Solar viewing through solar telescopes in front of the Needles Visitor Center
- 8:30-10:30 p.m.: Night sky observation through 10" Dobsonian telescope in Squaw Flat Campground Host site
Canyonlands National Park Island In the Sky District
- 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.: Patio talks at the Visitor Center
- 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.: Geology talks at Grand View Point
Hovenweep National Monument
- 7:30 p.m.: “Dating the Ruins,” an hour-long program about rock art by volunteer Lou Loucks at the Hovenweep Visitor Center
Natural Bridges National Monument
- 7:30 p.m.: “Spanning Time—Bridges and Peoples of Cedar Mesa,” a 45-minute program by Ranger Daniel Perry with live fiddle music in the Campground Amphitheater.
Recreation “user fees” such as backcountry permit fees, camping fees, and fees for other activities offered in the parks will continue to be charged that day.
