Fire Restrictions Rescinded in Southeast Utah Group Parks

Only light fires in approved locations and always fully extinguish them.

MOAB, Utah — Due to lower temperatures accompanied by higher humidity, fire danger has moderated across southeastern Utah. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, September 4, Arches and Canyonlands national parks, along with Natural Bridges and Hovenweep national monuments, will rescind fire restrictions.  

The region is still in drought conditions and vegetation is dry, so continue to take precautions and practice fire safety all year long. Remember: 

• Campfires and charcoal cooking are permitted in agency-approved fire pits and grills provided at developed recreation sites and picnic areas. Campfires along rivers must be contained within a hard-sided fire pan and all fire debris and ash must be packed out of the backcountry. 
• Visitors should always fully extinguish campfires, dispose of cigarettes properly, and remain on established roads and trails to avoid dry vegetation.
• Areas surrounding fire, charcoal, or pressurized-fuel devices should be kept clear of flammable vegetation. 
• Carrying a shovel, water, bucket or fire extinguisher when working or camping on public lands is a good safety precaution.
• Fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices are always prohibited on federal public lands.
