MOAB, Utah— Fire danger is increasing in southeastern Utah due to prolonged drought and rising temperatures. As a result, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in accordance with similar orders for the State of Utah and other federal agencies in Utah, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Hovenweep National Monument, and Natural Bridges National Monument will increase fire restrictions as follows:
-
No setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fire of any kind is allowed, except campfires and charcoal fires within agency approved fire pits and grills provided for in developed recreation sites and picnic areas or under permanently improved places of habitation. Charcoal use in metal pans or grills along riverways in areas clear of flammable vegetation is also allowed. Use of devices fueled by petroleum or LPG products with a shut-off valve is allowed in all locations.
-
Do not smoke, except in an enclosed vehicle or in paved areas completely devoid of any nearby vegetation. Cigarette butts must be disposed of in ash trays.
-
Do not discharge or use any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices. They are prohibited at all times on all federal public lands.
-
Do not grind, cut, or weld any metal in areas of dry vegetation.
-
Internal or external combustion engines may only be operated with a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained, and in effective working order.

As a general practice always fully extinguish campfires, dispose of cigarettes properly, stay on established roads and trails to avoid dry vegetation, and ensure trailer chains don't drag or create sparks. Being fire-wise helps prevent wildfires, keeps families safe, protects communities, and reduces unnecessary risk to firefighters.
