News Release Date: May 1, 2012 On Saturday, May 12, 2012, State Highway 313 will be temporarily closed to vehicles for the Thelma & Louise Half Marathon (a road running race). The road will be closed from the intersection of State Highway 191 to mile marker 11 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. During the closure, access to and from the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands will not be possible via highway 313, which is the only paved road into this area. Alternate routes to the Island in the Sky include the Shafer Trail and Long Canyon Road, which are accessed from State Highway 279 (the Potash Road). High-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for these roads. For a map of the this area, visit Google Maps. |
