Seminole Rest District Environmental Education

Education Programs Offered-
In-person programs are available October, November and January through April each school year. Environmental Education Programs in the Seminole Rest District can be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00-12:00. Alternate days may be appropriate if resources are available.

Details for all programs:

  • Location: 207 River Rd, Oak Hill, FL 32759
  • Maximum group size: 25 students
  • Teachers & Chaperones: 1 adult per 10 students (not to exceed 35 total)

Programs offered at Seminole Rest:

Lagoon Experience

  • 4th – 5th Grade
  • Students work in small groups with an adult chaperone using a seine net to capture animal species found in the Mosquito Lagoon. Captured animals are studied and identified and placed back in the lagoon.

Manatees: Guardians of the Seagrass

  • 3rd-5th grade
  • Students will explore the mission and function of a national seashore. Participants will learn about the important role these protected areas play in conserving natural habitats and wildlife. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students will be able to identify manatees, understand their characteristics as mammals and herbivores, and discover their ecological importance. The program also emphasizes conservation by empowering students to list and commit to at least two actions they can take to help protect manatees and their environment.

Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.

Purpose: To administer education programs for education audiences including but not limited to school groups, scouting groups, extracurricular groups, and home school groups.

Routine Uses: To effectively manage requests for education received by the NPS, the Education Reservation Request Form is used to collect basic education reservation information to facilitate operational aspects of scheduling groups for park education programs, including in-park education programs, ranger in classroom programs, and/or online distance learning programs.

Disclosure: Voluntary, however, failure to provide the requested information may impede the ability to grant your education reservation request.
