Environmental Education Programming for 2023 - 2024

General Information

Ranger guided programs are best suited for local schools within reasonable driving distance. Program descriptions can be found below.
  • Reservations for Ranger Guided Programs: Reservations are open for 2023 - 2024 field trips.
  • Cost: Programs are offered free of charge with an academic fee waiver, which can be discussed after a reservation has been requested.
  • Educational Fee Waiver: There is a new fee waiver request form that needs to be filled out in order to have the park entrance fee waived for your educational program. Educational Fee Waiver Request Form. The form may be emailed to us.
  • How to register: Registration usually opens mid-August each year. Because programs fill quickly, we suggest teachers request a date as soon as they know their preferred date(s) and program(s).
  • Transportation: Assistance with bus transportation may be available and can be requested during registration.

  • Ranger-led field trips are offered from mid-October through mid-April to students in 4th through 5th grade.

In-Person Program Descriptions

In-person programs are available from October through April each school year.

Turtle Mound & Lagoon Program (4th & 5th graders)

  • Location: Apollo Beach (south of New Smyrna Beach)
  • Maximum group size: 58 students
  • Teachers & Chaperones: 1 adult per 10 students (not to exceed 64 total)
  • Description: Students explore the vast Turtle Mound & Mosquito Lagoon and hike to the top of Turtle Mound for a bird's eye view. Dolphin, manatee, wading birds, turtles, and fish are just a few of the residents commonly encountered. Students learn about the Indian River Lagoon watershed and their own connections to the Central Florida ecosystem.

Beach Scavenger Hunt Program (3rd & 4th graders)

  • Location: Playalinda Beach (East of Titusville & north of Kennedy Space Center)
  • Maximum group size: 30 students
  • Teachers & Chaperones: 1 adult per 6 students (not to exceed 35 total)
  • Description: Students explore the beach habitat of Canaveral National Seashore with a fun bingo game. Students explore evidence of life on the seashore observing animals tracks, sea shells, sea turtle nests and dune habitat to name a few. Students learn about the plants and animals that call this place home and their own connections to the barrier island ecosystem.

Student Service Work Program (6th thru 12th Grade)

  • Location: Playalinda Beach (East of Titusville & north of Kennedy Space Center)
  • Maximum group size: 50 students
  • Teachers & Chaperones: 1 adult per 10 students (not to exceed 55 total)
  • Description: Students learn the act of community service by participating in a beach cleanup. Volunteers hours may be signed off for this 1-2 hour program.
