Seashore Updates
  • The Hatteras/Ocracoke ferry is running again using the fall ferry schedule. Visit the NCDOT Ferry Division website for the full schedule. All Cape Hatteras National Seashore facilities are open on Ocracoke Island.
  • The shorebird nesting season was very productive this year compared to last year. Lack of tropical storms/hurricanes for the majority of the season could have played a part in the successful season. An estimated 347 birds made their first successful flights off our beaches this season.
    • 324 Colonial Waterbirds (estimated), 20 American Oystercatchers, and 3 Piping Plovers
  • All beach access ramps that should be open at this time of year are currently open for day and night driving. Go to: http://go.nps.gov/beachaccess for beach and ocean info updates.
