Birds have long captivated humans with their unique beauty, striking behavior, and coveted ability to fly. Take a look at the world through the eyes of these fascinating creatures in “A Passion for Birds,” with educator and comedian Henry Lappen on Sunday, July 26, at 7:00 PM, At the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown. Henry Lappen’s performance is designed to inspire an appreciation for and understanding of birds. Learn why certain animals look the way they do through a dramatic program that uses realistic, handmade masks to explore bird adaptations. Participants will have the opportunity to try on the intricate masks and transform themselves into soaring eagles, swimming puffins, and great blue herons stalking their prey. The program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Provincetown Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the state-run Massachusetts Cultural Council. The program is free and open to the public. Henry Lappen studied mime, masks, and clowning at the Dell’Arte School of Physical Comedy in California and has been performing comedy for over 25 years. An avid student of nature since childhood, Lappen is a member of the Hampshire Bird Club and the Northeast Hawkwatch. He lives in Amherst, MA. Every Sunday in July and August at Province Lands Visitor Center, join a special guest for an in-depth look at the history, culture, and nature of Cape Cod in a free, one-hour program at 7:00 PM. Come each week to explore a range of topics, from reptiles and amphibians to ocean currents. These programs are sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore. IF YOU GO: The Province Lands Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff members are available to answer questions, assist with activity planning, and provide hiking and bicycling trail information in person, or by phone at (508) 487-1256.
