Contact: George E. Price, Jr., Superintendent, 508-957-0701
Superintendent George Price announced that smoking will be prohibited beginning June 19, 2014 at all six guarded beaches at the National Seashore. The smoking prohibition is the result of a number of complaints from visitors who have been affected by second hand smoke on the guarded beaches. Visitors expressed that their ability to enjoy the beach experience was impacted. Visitors who wish to smoke will be allowed to do so outside of the guarded beach area.Smokers are also asked to remove any smoking remnants with them as trash. The Superintendent has the discretionary authority to prohibit smoking in areas to prevent conflicts among visitor use activities. The prohibition is also consistent with a number of town beaches on Cape Cod and at other National Parks such as Fire Island National Seashore. ###
