Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham has reopened. It was closed for several days due to heating problems. The center is open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily, except December 25. Rangers are available to provide tips on places to visit, including beaches and walking trails. There is a museum with comprehensive displays representing the national seashore’s natural and cultural resources. Orientation films are shown regularly throughout the day, and Eastern National operates a store featuring books, maps, puzzles, games, cranberry and bayberry products, pottery, and other interpretive items related to the Outer Cape. The Nauset Marsh Trail and the Nauset Bicycle Trail originate at the center. During the last week of December park rangers will lead programs about whales, wildlife in winter, shipwrecks, and fibers of colonial times. The works of artist Gail Fields are on display in the center through the end of December. For more information, call Salt Pond Visitor Center at 508-355-3421, extension 0, or check the national seashore’s website, www.nps.gov/caco. |
