Symphony, Storytelling, and Science to Close Out National Seashore’s Evenings at Salt Pond Series

Storyteller Rona Leventhal will present "The Prince of Pirates and the Witch of Wellfleet: the Folklore of the Whydah" at 7 pm at Salt Pond Visitor Center on Thursday, August 23.

EASTHAM, Mass. –Cape Cod National Seashore will close out its summer evening program series at Salt Pond Visitor Center with science, storytelling, and a symphony performance. All programs are free, wheelchair accessible, and supported by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Financial support for the Cape Symphony performance provided by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, Eastern National, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Bug spray and flashlights recommended for outdoor programs. 

Tuesday, August 21, 7 pm: Sea Floor Mapping and Coastal Vulnerability to Storms and Sea Level Dr. Mark Borrelli from the Center for Coastal Studies and Mark Adams with Cape Cod National Seashore team up to provide an in-depth analysis of research in and adjacent to our coastal waters.

Thursday, August 23, 7 pm: The Prince of Pirates and the Witch of Wellfleet: the Folklore of the Whydah Join Storyteller Rona Leventhal for a presentation of one of the area’s most intriguing love stories. But be warned, there is no “happily ever after” in this legend!

Friday, August 24, 7 pm: Cape Symphony at the Seashore 90-minute outdoor multi-media event featuring patriotic tunes, Broadway classics, and scores from Hollywood blockbusters filmed in national parks. Guest performers include members of the U.S Air Force Band. Free shuttle from Little Creek Parking Area on Doane Road. Bench and lawn seating available, first-come, first-served. Rain location: Nauset Regional High School.

Tuesday, August 28, 7 pm: Local Residents Tell Us about Cape Cod University of Massachusetts Amherst historian David Glassberg speaks at the outdoor amphitheater on his research of social, economic, and ecological changes on the Outer Cape over the past 30 years, as seen through the eyes of local residents. 

Thursday, August 30, 7 pm: Songs of the Sea and More Popular singer-musicians Julie Charland and Denya Levine will delight audiences of all ages with their lively, free-spirited interpretation of traditional chanteys performed at the outdoor amphitheater.

The center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with staff to assist with activity planning. Visit the museum, view the seashore’s new film, enjoy panoramic views of Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh, and shop in the store featuring national seashore-related items.
