The first week of August is Family Week in Provincetown. Cape Cod National Seashore is offering special events for children and their parents. On August 5, 7, and 9 at 10:30 am, children age 4 to 6 can meet a nature celebrity and make a creature craft in “Secrets of the Seashore.” Space is limited for this free program, and parents must accompany children. Register by calling 508-487-1256.

On Friday, August 9, the national seashore will host a full day of fun called “Mini-Fest.” The children’s play Tale of the Ibis starts at 11:00 AM. This original puppet and live action theater production, created by Jody O’Neil and performed by local children, tells the story of how the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies achieved the first successful whale disentanglement. From 2:00 to 3:00 PM, enjoy games, crafts, and prizes around the outdoor amphitheater. The day culminates at 3:00 PM with the lively music of Zoe Lewis and Peter Donnelly. Bring your dancing shoes!

Meet at the Province Lands Visitor Center, off Race Point Road, Provincetown. All events are free, accessible, and open to the public.

IF YOU GO: The Province Lands Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Staff members are available to answer questions, assist with planning activities, and provide hiking and bicycling trail information. The visitor center features exhibits on the Outer Cape’s natural and cultural resources, orientation films, and a bookstore with interpretive items for sale, such as books, maps, games and puzzles. The 360-degree rooftop observation deck provides views of the surrounding dunes and sea. A listing of all of the National Seashore’s programs is available at the two seashore visitor centers, or on-line at www.nps.gov/caco.
