Cape Cod National Seashore Releases New Orientation Movie

WELLFLEET, Mass. – Just in time for the busy summer season, Cape Cod National Seashore has finished production of a new orientation movie.  Standing Bold—Cape Cod National Seashore is a 15-minute film that will play throughout the day in the two seashore visitor centers beginning in early June. This is the first new movie produced for the national seashore since the 1980s. 

“This new film captures many dimensions of this special place, and it will encourage people to get out and explore,” said Superintendent Brian Carlstrom. “The movie showcases the national seashore’s beauty, history, and nature; the forces that shape it; recreational opportunities; and what the Outer Cape has meant to people over time.” The film has open captions to aid people who have hearing difficulty, and is audio described to assist audience members who have low or no vision. Assistive listening devices are available at both visitor centers. 

The national seashore will host a premiere of the new film at 6:30 pm on Friday, June 1 at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Seating is limited, and free tickets are available by reservation beginning May 26 by calling the visitor center at [phone], ext. 0. Reservations are limited to four per party.

Standing Bold was produced by Northern Light Productions of Boston, under contract to the National Park Service. For more than 35 years, Northern Light Productions has produced award-winning projects that explore the interplay of history, culture, science, arts, and humanities. Northern Light has produced numerous documentaries and shorts for museums and institutions, including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the International Spy Museum, Mystic Seaport, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum, and the Boston Symphony. Other National Park Service projects include orientation movies for Lassen Volcanic National Park in California, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and San Juan National Historic Site in Puerto Rico. Standing Bold was produced by Lenny Rotman and directed by Lenny Rotman and Jesse Beecher. The film score was composed by John Kusiak. 

Funding for the film was provided by National Park Service entrance fees through a competitive process with other national park sites across the country. Other national seashore projects funded by entrance fees include new exhibits for Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, rehabilitation of the Red Maple Swamp Trail in Eastham, and the bathhouse at Herring Cove Beach.
