WELLFLEET, Mass— Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent Brian Carlstrom has announced that several contract and park staff construction projects are planned or underway at the national seashore over the coming winter and spring. Major projects include the construction of new bathhouse facilities at Nauset Light Beach, and ongoing rehabilitation of Highland Light. Several smaller projects include public restroom upgrades, septic system replacements, and completion of a new accessible path at Province Lands Visitor Center.

In Eastham, construction of the new bathhouse complex at Nauset Light Beach will get underway this month. Due to erosion, the previous bathhouse was demolished, and the new facility will be constructed well away from the cliff. The project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2021. Rehabilitation of the restrooms at Salt Pond Visitor Center will be ongoing through the winter. During this time, portable toilets with hand sanitizer will be available for public use.

In Truro, Cape Cod (Highland) Light is undergoing a major interior and exterior rehabilitation to repair deterioration caused by excessive moisture over time. The tower will be repointed, corroded metal will be repaired or replaced, and venting for air circulation will be restored. Work began in late summer and is anticipated to be completed in spring/summer 2021.

In Provincetown, perched on a high dune at the tip of the Cape, the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown provides stunning views of dunes, lighthouses, ocean, and the Town of Provincetown. A new paved walkway that will meet accessibility standards is under construction. Exterior rehabilitation work at the visitor center and interior work at the Race Point Beach bathhouse will take place over the winter.

In Wellfleet, a replacement septic system will be installed at the Marconi Area in Wellfleet as a cyclic maintenance measure to meet current public health codes.

In addition, new roofs will be installed on the former Nauset Coast Guard Station and the public restroom at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.
