Contact: George Price, Jr., Superintendent, 508-957-0739
Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price has announced that stair reconstruction work will begin Wednesday, June 15 at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham, MA. This work will replace the access stairs damaged during the series of nor'easters that struck Cape Cod in February and March of 2016. The scope of work includes removal of the damaged stair structure and construction of a new set of stairs to the beach. It is anticipated that the stairs will be accessible to the public for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The park is working with consultants to evaluate options and costs for future development of a modular beach access structure that can be easily removed before winter storms and reinstalled in the spring after the threat of heavy erosion has passed. Please also note that the current bathhouse facilities will be removed after this summer season because of the ongoing erosion of the bluff. Funding has been requested and plans for future bath house facilities are being developed. |
