Superintendent George Price announced that Kathy Tevyaw has been selected as the Deputy Superintendent of Cape Cod National Seashore. Prior to her selection, Tevyaw served as the Acting Superintendent of New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park and as the Training Manager for Interpretation and Education in the Northeast Regional Office of the National Park Service. As Deputy Superintendent, Tevyaw will work closely with Superintendent Price and the senior management team overseeing the operation and planning for the National Seashore.

Tevyaw began her career with the National Park Service in 1981 as a Park Ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park. She held positions at Independence National Historical Park, Eisenhower National Historic Site, and Lowell National Historical Park. She departed Lowell in 1993 as the Chief of Interpretation to work as an education specialist in the regional office supporting 80 parks throughout the northeast.

Price said, “Kathy brings a breadth of experience in park programs, communications, and successful partnership collaborations.  She has had extensive experience in parks, managing educational programs and regional operations.  I am very glad she was able to join our team to assist with the challenges facing the National Seashore as we approach our fiftieth year.”  Tevyaw said, “I’m looking forward to working with the superb staff at Cape Cod National Seashore and exploring each community that works in close partnership with the National Park Service to preserve the stunning resources of the Outer Cape.”

Tevyaw fills the position vacated by Mike Murray who was selected as Superintendent at Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  She is a native of Rhode Island and a graduate of Hood College where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Park Management, and Bank Street Graduate School of Education where she earned a Master of Science in Museum Education.

Tevyaw has teenage twins who are juniors at The Wheeler School and Moses Brown School respectively.  No longer just a summer visitor, she is looking forward to sharing this exciting experience with her family and discovering what each season has to offer at Cape Cod National Seashore.
