Interpretive Programs Offered at Cape Cod National Seashore for the Month of April

During April, recurring interpretive programs offered at Cape Cod National Seashore will cover a diverse selection of topics relating to the significant stories and resources that define the national seashore and Cape Cod. Programs range from short, one-hour guided walks and talks, to more in depth three-hour explorations into remote areas. 

Special program offerings for the month include a presentation by Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies Marine Education Director Jesse Mechling, called Ocean Futures: Cape Cod, Past, Present, and Future. This program takes place on Saturday, April 13, at 1:30 PM at the Salt Pond Visitor Center.

During the Massachusetts school vacation week, April 13 - 21, there will be several special programs presented by park rangers including one that takes place Thursday, April 18, at 11 AM at the Old Harbor Lifesaving Station at Race Point Beach in Provincetown. Whaling and Lifesaving will include looking for right whales along shore, and visiting the interior of this late 19^th-century building. In Eastham, at Coast Guard Beach, April 15, 17, and 19, from 10 AM to12 noon and 1 PM to 3 PM, rangers will be "on the lookout" for whales and other marine life seen from the beach or bluffs. National Junior Ranger Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 17, from noon to 2:30 PM. Kids will participate in a weather balloon launch countdown at a special atmospheric observation station located in the park. Fun weather activities, includingObserving the Water Cycle, Name that Cloud, and It's Leafing Out: Observing Plants, will be offered before and after the balloon launch. To participate, meet at the Highlands Center parking area, at the end of Dewline Road, North Truro.

International Marconi Day is Saturday, April 20 and the national seashore will celebrate by inviting families to join licensed radio operators from the Marconi Radio Club as they make two way contacts with other operators around the world. The event takes place from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Coast Guard Station, Coast Guard Beach in Eastham. Parking is limited.

Finally, in celebration of Wellfleet's 250^th anniversary, the first program in the series of free hikes, Exploring Wellfleet" will be Wednesday, April 24 at 9:30 AM through the "island" of Bound Brook on the Cape Cod Bay side of town. The program is a ranger-led, three-hour hike to explore this area that was home to some of the earliest European settlements in Wellfleet and is bounded by the Herring River to the east and Bound Brook to the north.
