During the great age of sail, mariners lived aboard creaking ships, ventured to exotic lands, endured ferocious storms, battled leviathans at sea, and returned with amazing stories. Experience the adventures of Cape Cod seafarers in “Tales from the Sea.”

On Sunday, July 19th, at 7:00 p.m. folklorist Jim Coogan will guide you through uncharted waters in a one-hour presentation about the exploits of Cape Cod sailors. The author of seven books about Cape Cod, Coogan will share some highlights from the treasure trove of tall tales, daring deeds and sea chanteys that speak to the enduring connection between Cape Codders and the sea. A book signing will follow the presentation. Meet at the Province Lands Visitor Center auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.

Jim Coogan lives in Sandwich, Massachusetts, and is a retired teacher and a regular columnist for “The Cape Cod Times.” His books include the award winning Sail Away Ladies: Stories of Women in the Age of Sail and Cape Cod Harvest, a collection of more than eighty stories of Cape Cod lore and legends.

Every Sunday in July and August, at 7:00 p.m., join a special guest for an in-depth look at the history, culture and nature of Cape Cod in a one-hour program. Come each week to explore a range of topics, from reptiles and amphibians to ocean currents. The programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore. All presentations will be held the Province Lands Visitor Center and are free, accessible and open to the public.
