WELLFLEET, Mass—Cape Cod National Seashore rangers invite you to take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle to step outside and enjoy the beauty of the season as we transition from fall to winter.

Ranger Dani Cessna will lead a one-hour walk at Fort Hill on Wednesday, December 19 at 4 pm. As the sun sets, look for tracks and sign animals leave behind, and possibly catch a glimpse of wildlife. Dress warmly, wear good walking shoes, and bring a flashlight for returning to cars. Meet at the lower parking lot at Fort Hill (across from the Penniman House), 70 Fort Hill Road, Eastham.

Explore the tranquil beauty of Salt Pond with Ranger Jenna Sammartino at 1 pm on Thursday, December 20. This one-hour walk along the edge of the pond focuses on the nature and history of one of the national seashore’s most picturesque spots. Meet at Salt Pond Visitor Center, 50 Nauset Road, Eastham.

If the weather is inclement, call Salt Pond Visitor Center at (508) 255-3421, ext. 0 to inquire about an alternate activity.

Salt Pond Visitor Center is open throughout the winter, except on December 25. Hours are 9 to 4:30 daily. On weekends through December 23, and daily from December 26 through January 1, explore a variety of seashore stories and resources through hands-on activities. Artwork by Karst Hoogeboom, Mark Adams, and Rebecca Arnoldi is on exhibition in the classroom through the month, and on Sunday, December 30 at 1:30 pm there will be a showing of the original animated film, “101 Dalmations.”

The gift and bookstore operated by Eastern National is open daily, with an extensive selection of seashore-related items, including books, maps, puzzles, apparel, toys, glassware, and pottery. A percentage of proceeds benefits national seashore education programs.

Visit the museum, with its extensive exhibits and display of artifacts; enjoy the view of Salt Pond, Nauset Marsh, and the Atlantic beyond; and experience the seashore’s new film, “Standing Bold,” showing on the theater-size screen in surround sound.

Visit the seashore’s website in late December for the schedule of activities occurring in January and February, including the annual winter film festival.
