Contact: George Price, Superintendent, 508-957-0739 Wellfleet, MA- Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price has announced that National Park Service Northeast Regional Director Michael Caldwell has selected Far Land on the Beach, LLC., to operate the food concession at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA. Herring Cove Beach is one of the most popular beaches of the six beaches managed by Cape Cod National Seashore. Cape Cod National Seashore was signed into law by President Kennedy in 1961. There has been a food concession at Herring Cove Beach since the Commonwealth of Massachusetts developed the area as a state park recreation facility in the 1950s. The beach was transferred to the National Park Service (NPS) when the national seashore was established.
Price said, "We look forward to working with the team at Far Land on the Beach as the concessioner for the next ten years. Under their recent three-year contract, they have successfully served visitors at the new beach facility at Herring Cove Beach."
The new ten-year concession contract is authorized under the National Park Service Concessions Management Improvement Act of 1998 which requires a competitive process. The NPS concessions program manages commercial visitor services that are necessary and appropriate for public use and enjoyment at national park sites. The NPS solicited proposals for this contract through a prospectus which was published in March 2015. A panel of National Park Service subject matter experts reviewed all proposals and, based on the criteria stated in the prospectus, recommended Far Land on the Beach, LLC., for the Regional Director's selection. The criteria and evaluation method are prescribed in the federal regulations that govern NPS concessions operations, 36 C.F.R. §51.16.
