Contact: Courtney Butler, Management Assistant, 508-957-0701 EASTHAM, Mass. – Cape Cod National Seashore Interim Superintendent, Kathy Tevyaw invites all walkers and runners to join Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod National Seashore, and Koko FitClub Cape Cod to run or walk for your heart health on Saturday, September 23 at 9 am.The Healthy Parks, Healthy People 5K Run/Walk for Heart Health will start and end at Nauset Regional High School. The course includes both road and trail through the national seashore. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Friends of Cape Cod National Seashore. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to help patients regain their strength and learn how to manage their heart health in the future. The Friends is the fundraising partner of the national seashore, a partnership established to preserve, protect, and enhance the fragile environment and unique cultural heritage of the national seashore. Healthy Parks, Healthy People is a walking program to promote health and wellness. This is the third year that the national seashore has partnered with Cape Cod Healthcare physicians, nurses and athletic trainers working with park rangers to help motivate participants to increase their movement through enjoyment of the outdoors - and improve their health in the process. The national seashore has committed park rangers and staff to the Healthy Parks, Healthy People program, to assist with guiding walkers and educating participants about the five trails included in the program. Interim Superintendent Kathy Tevyaw says “I, along with a number of our park staff, are actively training for this 5K. I have been using the Couch to 5K training program provided by CCHC, and it’s easy to follow. We look forward to promoting the beauty of our natural surroundings and building a healthier community through this event.” Gather your friends and register today.
