WELLFLEET, Mass. – Cape Cod National Seashore welcomes the Cape Symphony back to the shores of Salt Pond in Eastham for an outdoor concert at 7 pm on Thursday, August 24. This is the sixth symphony performance at the seashore, an enduring legacy of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial celebration. Admission is free and tickets are not required.
The event features the Cape Symphony’s principal musicians and guest artists. The Cape Symphony will be joined by special guest vocalists who are well-known on the Cape music scene: Mozelle Andrulot, who grew up in Eastham, and Ella Mae Dixon, originally from Wellfleet. The program includes American classics “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” and “I Only Have Eyes For You.”
“Over the past six years, the park has formed a wonderful partnership with Cape Symphony,” said Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent Brian Carlstrom. “Symphony at the Seashore has become a beloved summer tradition, an evening of joyful music and a celebration of the beauty, nature, and inspiration exemplified by the backdrop of our national parks.”
This year's Symphony at the Seashore concert will serve as a culminating event in a summer's-long celebration of Cape Symphony's Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak, who will be stepping down from his role after 16 years of dedication and service to the Cape and Islands community.
“It will be thrilling to work with the talented musicians of the Cape Symphony and our long-time partners at the Cape Cod National Seashore at this annual free concert,” said Pak. “I’m grateful for everyone’s support and good wishes as I say farewell.”
This free concert is made possible by major financial support from Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, Eastern National, and Cape Cod 5. Since 1987, Friends has improved the seashore and provided for public enjoyment and resource protection through volunteerism, and financial support for historic building preservation, trail rehabilitation, shorebird protection, education programs, and events. Eastern National has been a proud partner of the National Park Service since 1948. Since then, they have donated over $180 million to support the educational, historical, and scientific mission of the NPS. Cape Cod 5 supports and enhances the vibrancy and vitality of our communities by providing financial support to local nonprofit organizations. In each of the last six years, Cape Cod 5 has contributed more than $1 million annually to organizations working to make a positive impact in our region.
IF YOU GO: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at 50 Nauset Road in Eastham. Outdoor bench and lawn seating are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free and the amphitheater is wheelchair accessible. Free parking shuttle service will be provided to and from the event from the Little Creek parking area on Doane Road. Handicap accessible parking is available at Salt Pond Visitor Center on a first come, first served basis. Picnicking is welcome. There is no food for sale; a bottle filling station is available for water. Pre-concert family games will be offered from 6 to 6:45 pm. Those attending are encouraged to bring bug spray and flashlights for ease in returning to vehicles. Pets are not permitted. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held on Friday, August 25, and announcements will be made via social media on Thursday morning.
