Families are invited to come to Cape Cod National Seashore on August 16 for a nautical journey with storyteller-musician Paul Kaplan. In "Songs of the Sea," Kaplan will share the story of Gail the Whaler, a young girl who, disguised as a boy, ships out on a 19th century New England whale ship bound for California. There will be a 3:00 PM performance at Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, and a 7:00 PM performance at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. The performances are free, accessible, and sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.
As a songwriter and musician, Kaplan believes that music is unique in its ability to cross the boundaries of time and place, opening minds and hearts along the way.He has been an enthusiastic participant in the folk and world music scenes since the late 1960s. Long associated with Broadsideand Fast Folkmagazines, Kaplan's songs have been performed by many other noted folk musicians, including Pete Seeger. His National Seashore audiences will sing along and interact with him during a thrilling adventure straight out of New England history.
