Cape Cod National Seashore to Host Programs of Traditional Songs with Balladeer Linda Russell July 9

Balladeer Linda Russell explores the impact of settlement and the relationship between people and the land as revealed in the traditional songs of the past.Her program "Songs of Nature and the Land" takes a musical and historical look at the natural world of Cape Cod.Join Linda Russell for two, one-hour presentations at 3 PM on Tuesday, July 9, at the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, and at 7 PM at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Programs are free of charge and accessible. The performances are funded by the Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Linda Russell explores history through music. Accompanying herself on hammered and mountain dulcimers, guitar and penny whistle, she brings life to the ballads, broadsides, love songs, and dance tunes of America's past.Having served for many years as a balladeer for the National Park Service at Federal Hall on Wall Street, the site of Washington's inauguration, Ms. Russell now takes her music to historic sites, schools and festivals throughout the country.Her New York City appearances have included Lincoln Center and the Carnegie Hall Folk Festival.She has recorded eight albums of traditional and popular music from America's past.

IF YOU GO: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham, and can be contacted by calling 508-255-3421. The center is open from 9 AM to 5 PM and staff is available to assist with activity planning. Stop by and visit the museum, view a park film, enjoy panoramic views of Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh and shop in the gift store featuring interpretive items such as books, maps, puzzles, and games. IF YOU GO: The Province Lands Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 PM. Staff members are available to answer questions, assist with planning activities, and provide hiking and bicycling trail information. 

The visitor center features exhibits on the Outer Cape's natural and cultural resources, orientation films, and a bookstore with interpretive items for sale, such as books, maps, games and puzzles. The 360-degree rooftop observation deck provides views of the surrounding dunes and sea.
