Cape Cod National Seashore to Host Live Owl Program

Owls are often the first bird young children learn to identify. Their wise-looking eyes and cuddly-looking bodies give them a distinctly human appearance. Even though they are seldom heard and rarely seen, owl images and owl characters populate our culture and imaginations in many surprising ways. Time and again, we have seen a childlike sense of wonder awakened by these animals, regardless of the age of the audience. Join Perry Ellis from Mass Audubon's Blue Hills Trailside Museum for a free, one-hour live owl presentation at 7 PM on Tuesday, July 15, at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.

This program will explore what makes owls special, the role they play in the environment, and how humans affect their survival. Attendees will be able to see the owls up close, handle touchable natural history artifacts, and ask questions of an experienced naturalist. This program is presented by Mass Audubon's Blue Hills Trailside Museum. The museum, located in the Blue Hills Reservation outside of Boston, features native non-releasable wildlife and exhibits on the natural history of Massachusetts. Thousands of people enjoy and learn from the educational programs and events offered at the museum each year.

This program is part of the annual "Tuesday Evening Series" at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Held weekly at 7 PM in July and August in the air-cooled comfort of the visitor center auditorium, programs focus on the diverse natural and cultural resources on the Outer Cape and are suitable for all ages. Programs are free of charge and accessible. The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.
