Superintendent George Price announces that Cape Cod National Seashore will host a kick-off event for the summer's Healthy Parks, Healthy People program on July 6, 2015 from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the parking lot of the Salt Pond Visitor Center, 50 Nauset Road, Eastham. The event kicks off the new Healthy Parks, Healthy People walking program in partnership with Cape Cod Healthcare. "I am very pleased that Cape Cod National Seashore is collaborating with Cape Cod Healthcare, on this important and fun initiative," said Superintendent Price. "This is a way for all of us to get healthier while enjoying nature and all the resources the Cape has to offer." The event will feature the same set-up that the Cape Cod Healthcare physicians, nurses and athletic trainers will staff Monday through Friday from July 6th through mid-October. Visitors will learn about the five trails selected for walks and receive maps and guides. Medical staff will be available to give blood pressure readings as well as height, weight and body mass index measured by registered medical personnel. At 9:30am, Dr. Elissa Thompson, a Cape Cod Hospital cardiologist and medical director of the cardiac rehab unit at Cape Cod Hospital, will lead a walk of the Nauset Marsh Trail with a National Park Service ranger. There will also be a ranger-guided walk of the same trail at 10:30am. Also at the event will be representation from the Department of Veteran Affairs in Providence, RI and the Grace Veterans Program in Hyannis. "We especially want to get the word out to our veterans and are working with the VA, and the Cape &Islands Veterans Outreach Center to pass the word and develop programs for veterans and their families to explore and experience the seashore," said Price. There will be games and giveaways, and the event promises to be educational, inspiring, and fun for the whole family. ### |
