Life on Cape Cod is intimately tied to the ocean. For centuries, the sea held the promise of wealth and fame. However, the ocean can also be a dangerous and deadly place for those who live, work, and visit. Join local author Jim Coogan for a free, one hour presentation on captains, lighthouses, and lifesavers on August 18 at 7:00 PM at Salt Pond Visitor Center. During his program, Mr. Coogan will share memorable tales of the maritime history and culture of Cape Cod. Listen to both harrowing and heroic stories set in a land known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.” Mr. Coogan is the author of seven books about Cape Cod and a regular columnist for the Cape Cod Times. His books will be for sale after the presentation. The program is part of the “Tuesday Evening Series” at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Held weekly at 7 PM in July and August in the air-cooled comfort of the visitor center auditorium, programs cover the diverse natural and cultural resources on the Outer Cape and are suitable for all ages, free of charge, and accessible. The series is sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore.
