Superintendent George Price announces National Volunteer Week at Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS) and encourages your participation. Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod (ACC) and seashore staff will be teaming up to "Protect, Preserve, and Prepare Our Park: Celebrate Community Service to Showcase the National Park Service (NPS) Centennial." This cross-stream initiative will engage youth, community volunteers, and AmeriCorps Cape Cod members at multiple locations in the seashore. Together they will make lasting improvements that enhance the natural beauty of the park and promote stewardship, advocacy, and awareness in preparation for the NPS 100th birthday on August 25, 2016. Centennial Volunteer Ambassador Courtney Butler, says "We have a great array of projects at improvement sites including Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, Highlands Center in Truro, Marconi Station Site and CCNS Headquarters in Wellfleet, Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, and six ocean beaches within the park boundaries. Activities include trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, carpentry and sign installation, painting, and beach clean-up and erosion control." Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod is a unique residential service program managed and supervised by the Barnstable County Resource Development Office, a County department established in 1994 that builds, strengthens, and expands capacity and resources that serve the 15 towns on Cape Cod. ACC is committed to addressing the critical environmental and disaster response needs of Cape Cod's community and fragile natural resources. ACC's 32 members each provide at least 1,700 hours of quality service over a 10 ½ month term. For more information on National Volunteer Week or our site projects please contact Courtney Butler.
