WELLFLEET, Mass— Youth hold the future of America’s public lands in their hands. As a national park site, Cape Cod National Seashore can help youth develop an appreciation for nature by enriching their lives with outdoor experiences. To facilitate this, the park is recruiting youth for the SEASTAR (Student Environmental Advocacy, Support, Training, and Recreation) Youth Volunteer program.
The program consists of SEASTAR-exclusive volunteer event days specifically prepared for youth. These events will aim to expose members of the program to several different park operations and will help participants learn new skills, meet like-minded peers, and gain hands-on experience with the National Park Service. In addition, participants can also accumulate volunteer hours recognized by academic institutions. Volunteer events range from canoe refurbishing to beach cleanups, to creating a pollinator garden, and more. All opportunities through this program will combine education, recreation, and volunteerism to uplift the next generation of environmentally conscious professionals.
“We are excited to make our volunteer program more accessible to youth, and we are grateful to all who donate their time and energy to support Cape Cod National Seashore,” commented Daniel Blankenship, the park’s Volunteer Coordinator.
The SEASTAR Youth Volunteer Program is open to youth ages 14 and up, including college students. Members are encouraged to attend as many events as they would like according to their interests, career goals, and schedule. SEASTAR volunteer events are planned year-round with the school year calendar in mind to lessen the burden on full-time students. To assist with applications or career opportunities, Cape Cod National Seashore will issue a formal certificate of program involvement to members who volunteer more than 40 hours.
