News Release Date: January 27, 2014 Superintendent Price said, "The Compact's outreach efforts are so valuable at educating people about ongoing needs for land protection in and near the national seashore; the video and booklet will be invaluable for helping us and local land trusts advocate for preservation of larger properties."The Compact's work focused on several families in and near the national seashore who have taken advantage of tax benefits available to landowners via a commitment to preserve some of their property. The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. was formed in 1986 as a non-profit service center assisting six local land trusts on the Lower Cape. The Compact now works with 23 local and regional land trusts and watershed associations on their projects to acquire and manage important natural areas as protected open space. The Compact also advises its members on non-profit administration, tax, and legal questions. Because most local trusts are managed by volunteers, they find the full-time staff support provided by the Compact crucial to fulfilling their land conservation goals. As a regional organization, the Compact also conducts research and promotes land projects that foster a regional approach to open space protection. The Compact is supported by dues from member land trusts, donations, and grants from private foundations. If you go: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham. The center is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Staff and volunteers can assist with trip planning; films are shown regularly throughout the day; there is a museum showcasing the national seashore's rich natural and cultural resources; and there is a well-stocked book and gift store featuring books, maps. apparel, and other national seashore-related items for sale. ### |
