News Release Date: January 6, 2009 Superintendent George E. Price, Jr. announced that Bob Grant has been selected as the Chief Ranger of Cape Cod National Seashore. Prior to his selection, Grant served as the seashore’s South District Ranger working out of the Nauset Ranger Station in Eastham and before that, as a Park Ranger at the Race Point Ranger Station in Provincetown. As Chief Ranger, Grant will oversee the resource and visitor protection, fee collection, fire management, and lifeguard operations at the national seashore. Grant began his career with the National Park Service (NPS) in 1976 at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee as an interpretive ranger and a backcountry ranger for three summers. After graduating from college, he was hired on a full-time basis as a backcountry ranger, park medic, and supervisory park ranger. He developed a strong background in several operations including law enforcement, EMS and search and rescue, wildland fire, backcountry, and bear management. While at the Smokies, Grant attended basic law enforcement training and criminal investigator school at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. After 13 years in the Smokies, he worked as a background investigator with the Office of Federal Investigations, just prior to returning to the NPS at Cape Cod in 1994. Price said, “Bob brings a tremendous amount of professionalism and a great communication style which is critical to the seashore’s public safety program as we work closely with the six towns to protect our resources and serve the millions of folks who visit each year. Bob will be a major asset to our senior management team and we are glad he is on board.” Grant fills the position vacated by Steve Prokop who was selected as Superintendent at Kalaupapa National Historical Park in Hawaii. Grant was selected in a competitive process that included applicants from throughout the National Park Service. He is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of East Carolina University, where he majored in parks and conservation. Grant, his wife Cyndi, and son, a student at Nauset Regional High School, live in Eastham. Another son attends college in the Corps of Cadets at Norwich University in Vermont. ### |
