Cape Cod National Seashore to Host Afternoon of Science Talks Science in the Seashore Symposium on September 13

EASTHAM, Mass. – Cape Cod National Seashore’s Atlantic Research and Learning Center will host the seventh annual Science in the Seashore Symposium at the Salt Pond Visitor Center on Thursday, September 13, from 1 to 4:30 pm. This popular program features a diverse group of scientists and scholars sharing with the public the natural and cultural research projects they are conducting within the seashore.

The Science in the Seashore Symposium is a great opportunity to learn about research at Cape Cod National Seashore from the scientists in the field. There will be brief and engaging presentations on a variety of topics, including roseate terns, coastal breaches, blue carbon, predation in the Herring River, East Harbor water quality, and more.

The Atlantic Research and Learning Center at Cape Cod National Seashore, the host of the symposium, is one of nineteen research and learning centers in the National Park System. Science and education come together at these centers to preserve, protect, and encourage understanding of park resources.

The 2018 Science in the Seashore Symposium is sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore through a generous donation from the Chambers Family Foundation in honor of Amy Wrobel. Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore is the national seashore’s official fundraising partner, and sponsor of the Nickerson Fellowship, which provides annual grants for research in the national seashore. The event is free, accessible, and open to the public.

IF YOU GO: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham and can be reached at 508-255-3421. The center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, with staff available to assist with activity planning. Visit the museum, view a park film, enjoy panoramic views of Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh, and shop in the gift and bookstore featuring national seashore-related items.
