Join the Highlands Center partner organizations for this year's Highlands Fest!To be held at the Highlands Center in Truro on July 9 from 3 to 6 PM, this year's event will also be Cape Cod National Seashore's 50th Anniversary celebration of Volunteers-in-Parks and how their commitment to service makes positive waves throughout the national seashore."In 2010 alone, volunteers served over 22,000 hours at the seashore. The monetary value of this service is almost half of a million dollars, but the contributions of these volunteers are invaluable to us and we are excited to be recognizing them at Highlands Fest this year," says Superintendent George Price.

The day will focus around a fun and engaging service project: painting a mural that commemorates volunteerism, which will leave a visible and lasting mark on the Highlands Center, just as volunteers leave their mark on the seashore. All ages and abilities are invited to participate - no painting experience required.A break from the sun will be available under the Payomet tent, where "Out of Service," a short film about the former North Truro Air Force Station, will be screened on loop. The Highlands Center Partners and Cape Cod National Seashore will specially honor several parties for their extensive volunteer service to advance science, the arts, education, and the community during an awards ceremony at 5 PM.

Highlands Fest is an annual celebration of the Highlands Center at Cape Cod National Seashore with its seven partner organizations: AmeriCorps Cape Cod, Cape Cod National Seashore, Fine Arts Work Center in Truro, Highlands Center Inc., Payomet Performing Arts Center, Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.
