A Guided Tour of the Lighthouse Tower
On Open Tower Days, you can experience the lighthouse with a half-hour guided tour between 10:00 am - 3:30 pm. The guided tours are the only way to access the top tower of the lighthouse and will give participants a glimpse into life at this lighthouse station between 1855 - 1891. Tickets will be available on the day of the event, first come, first serve. Please stop by the ticketing table near the lighthouse earlier in the day to ensure a ticket time. All participants must stop by the ticketing table to obtain a ticket.

March 22nd, 2024: Climb the tower to celebrate the anniversary of the Old Point Loma light being extinguished for the last time.

August 25th, 2024: Enjoy the sweeping views from atop the tower in celebration of the establishment of the National Park Service.

November 15th, 2024: Imagine yourself as the first keeper when you make your way to the top of the lighthouse in celebration of the anniversary of the first time the light was lit!
Safety Messages

Footwear Requirement: Closed-toed shoes with a back are required to climb the tower. You will have to climb 8 steep ladder rungs and a spiral staircase to reach the lens deck.

Climbing Ability: If you do not feel comfortable climbing a ladder without assistance at home, then you should not participate in this activity. Due to the risk of serious injury, family members are not allowed to help each other up the ladder. Please consider a different activity, such as touring the assistant keepers' quarters or the first story of the lighthouse.

Child Safety: This activity is not safe for small children. Any children participating must be at least 48” tall.

Bag Check: A bag check station will be available for large bags and other hand-held items. The opening to the top tower is narrow, and backpacks or other large items cannot be carried.
