White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys)

Length 7” Wingspan 11”
Short broad flattened bill, slight crest on head, rounded wings, long tail, blackish except for white belly, seen flying from low perch catching flying insects.

One of the most studied songs in science, it varies from region-to-region. However, there is a common thread of a sweet, melodic introduction followed by a succession of jumbled whistles ending in a buzz or trill.
