What programs do you offer?

We offer a number of ranger-led programs. If you would like to do a self-guided trip, then you can apply for a fee-waiver or tidepool permit.

Is there a fee for programs?

Programs are FREE you just have to get your students to the park! Upon receiving your confirmation, you will also get a fee waiver that waives the entrance fee into the park.

What days are programs offered?

Programs are offered Monday through Friday on a first come first served basis. Please check the calendar to see available dates BEFORE you send in your request.

What times are programs offered?

Our historical programs are offered daily. 10:00AM – 11:00AM and 11:15AM – 12:15PM. Science programs are offered around tidal exchanges and personnel availability. Please check the calendar to see available times BEFORE you send in your request.

What is the maximum number of students allowed per program?

Each hour long program can accommodate 35 students. If you have more than 35 students, you will need to reserve BOTH time slots for a day. If you have more than 70 students, you will need to request multiple days.

How will I know if I am confirmed for a trip?

You will receive an email that includes a confirmation of the date, time and program. The email with also include your fee waiver. Please allow up to 2 weeks to receive confirmation.

Are there pre-visit activities that need to be completed?

YES. Our Science Education Programs all have pre- and post- visit activities outlines in their Program Overviews/Lesson Plans.

I have a self-guided trip and/or I am look for activities for my group. What should I do?

What is the required adult to child ratio?

1 adult to every 5 children is REQUIRED.

Is transportation or bus funding provided?

Groups are responsible for transportation arrangements. Buses are required to stay for the entire duration of the trip if you are taking part in a tidepool program. Cabrillo does not provide transportation to and from the tidepools. We do have a small allotment of bus funding for qualified parties available on a first come, first serve basis. This is denoted on your registration form. Please be aware that tidepool access requires walking down steep sandstone cliffs.

Where do we store our lunches?

There is a storage bin between the snack machines. Just look for the sign that says “Snacks”. If you are participating in a tidepool program, we recommend you bring bins for your students.

Where do we eat our lunches?

Please eat your lunches in the Ballast View picnic area and pack your trash out with you.

What do I need to bring with me on the field-trip?

Please review the checklist under "Traveling to Cabrillo." Your fee waiver is the most important. Make copies for each vehicle in your group. Vehicles without a fee waiver will be charged. Please make sure to also review our Group Expectations with your students and chaperones.

Are programs ever canceled due to inclement weather?

No. We do programs rain or shine.

Do you offer professional learning for teachers?

We host a teacher workshop twice a year that showcases some of the programs we offer.

We are also a host site for the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program.
