Navajo Loop Trail
It is with great pleasure that we announce the reopening of the Navajo Loop Trail. The trail has been closed since May of 2006 when 400-500 tons of rock fell and blocked the Wall Street section of the trail. The park decided to construct a trail over the rock fall with steps leading out of Wall Street on the steeper lower side. Wall Street is expected to remain open until snow and ice make conditions unsafe and close the trail until the next summer season.
Rim Trail between Sunrise and Sunset Viewpoints
The Rim Trail will be closed for reconstruction and when complete, will provide a fully accessible trail from Sunrise to Sunset parking areas. Several sections of trail will be moved away from the cliff edge to allow for the natural processes of erosion. When winter weather prohibits construction, the trail will be reopened to visitors in a partially completed state. Full completion of the project is anticipated for the middle to late summer of 2008.
Bryce Connector Trail
The Bryce Connector Trail experienced severe impacts from recent monsoonal rains resulting in sections of the trail being washed out and other sections completely buried in debris. The trail was scheduled for major work in 2008 to address the impacts of previous storm events. The trail will be closed for safety and for reconstruction. It is anticipated that repairs will start in the late spring of 2008 and extend into the 2009 season for completion depending on weather. This steep trail connects Bryce Point to the Peek-a-Boo Loop. The Loop can still be accessed via the Navajo Loop or Queen’s Garden Trail.
