Environmental Assessment for Bryce Canyon National Park’s Paria View Rehabilitation Project Available for Public Review.

Bryce Canyon National Park Superintendent Eddie Lopez has announced that the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Park’s Paria View Rehabilitation Project has been completed and is available for public review and comment.

Paria View Rehabilitation Project

The Paria View EA evaluates the beneficial and/or adverse impacts that viewpoint rehabilitation activities may have on the natural and cultural resources located in the area of the proposed project. By focusing on the effects of rehabilitation activities on park resources, this evaluation provides information which will allow the park to better protect and conserve the existing natural and cultural resources for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

In March 2007, the park solicited help from the public in identifying issues with existing conditions at Paria View and in developing alternate rehabilitation and repair approaches. The NPS used information gathered from the public; Federal, State and local agencies; universities; and data generated by the NPS to complete the EA. The EA analyzes a No Action Alternative (Alternative A), a Minimal Improvement Alternative (Alternative B), and Rehabilitation of Paria View Alternative (Alternative C), the agency’s preferred alternative.

We invite the public to comment on the Paria View EA. This document is available on our web site at www.nps.gov/brca/ under management documents and also on the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) web page at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/BRCA. If you would like to receive a paper document, please contact the park at (435) 834-4103.

Copies of the EA are available for review at the following Utah public libraries: Panguitch, Salt Lake City and at the Tropic Town Hall. Copies are also available for review at the following university/college libraries: Southern Utah University, Cedar City; Brigham Young University, Provo; University of Utah, Salt Lake City; and Utah State University, Logan.

The comment review period for the Paria View Rehabilitation Project EA is June 1 – July 1, 2007. Comments may be mailed to: Superintendent, Attn: Paria View Rehabilitation Project EA, Bryce Canyon National Park, P.O. Box 640201, Bryce Canyon, UT 84764. You may also submit comments by e-mail or through the PEPC web page.

Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
