Memorandum
To: All National Parks of Boston Employees & Volunteers, and Navy Yard Residents, Cooperators and Contractors
From: Superintendent, National Parks of Boston /s/ Michael Creasey
Subject: Closure and Visitor Use Restrictions, Pier 1, Charlestown Navy Yard
Beginning on August 5, 2024 the US Navy will establish an extended security perimeter on Pier One, West in anticipation of their temporary berthing location on August 9th. The USS Constitution will be berthing in the visiting ship location on Pier One from August 9th until approximately August 30th due to dredging operations that will be occurring within the Pier One slip.
This extended security barrier (as depicted by the solid black line on page two) will be from the current fenced security perimeter around the USS Constitution and extend down Pier One, West to Building 109. This extended perimeter is to temporarily to provide a continued protection for the USS Constitution.
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 1.5(a)(2). I am enacting the following restrictions on Pier One, West, within this temporary security area:
The temporary restricted security area is closed to all persons except those who enter the area through a security screening facility during open hours of operation or authorized by the US Navy. Certain items including firearms, explosives, and large knives that may otherwise be legal to possess or carry, may not be allowed within the restricted security area. These restrictions are necessary to protect the lives of US Navy personnel, visitors, and the USS Constitution.
I appreciate your cooperation and patience with this temporary closure. This closure may be extended if delays in dredging occur. Please contact Acting Chief Ranger Christopher O’Shea through the telecommunications Operations Center at 617-242-5678 if you have any questions.
