BALSAM, NC – On Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 3:52 p.m., Blue Ridge Parkway dispatchers received a report of a park visitor in medical distress within a mile of the Graveyard Fields Overlook Trailhead.
Local NPS Rangers, along with Haywood County EMS, responded to find Muhammad Sultan, age 58, of Columbia, SC, having medical complications which led to CPR being initiated on site. Mr. Sultan was pronounced deceased in the ambulance enroute to Haywood Regional Hospital.
