MONTROSE, Colo. – With measurable increases in precipitation, the Stage 1 Fire Restriction Order posted on September 5 is hereby lifted and—as of Friday, September 12 at 12:01 AM—the Stage 1 Fire Restriction Order will be rescinded.

With no Fire Order, normal regulatory restrictions apply. Restrictions are listed in 36 Code of Federal Regulations, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park Superintendent’s Compendium, and the Curecanti National Recreation Area Superintendent’s Compendium under §1.5 (Closures and public use limits), §2.13 (Fires), §2.21 (Smoking), and §2.38 (Explosives).

Area Description:

  • All lands within the boundaries of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area.
Visitor use of fire in the parks is regulated to protect resources and assure visitor safety. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions were in place to reduce the number of human-caused fires by decreasing potential sources of wildfire ignition during a period of very high fire danger.  Learn more about Black Canyon at www.nps.gov/blca and Curecanti at www.nps.gov/cure.
