Gunnison, CO: As the weather warms and snow recedes, the National Park Service is beginning to open some of the facilities and services in Curecanti National Recreation Area and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
At Curecanti, Elk Creek Campground is currently open and others will open as water is turned on, tested, and winter debris is cleared.
Lake Fork boat ramp and inspections are open daily from 6:30 am to 4 pm. Elk Creek boat ramp and inspections will be open beginning Tuesday, April 4. Hours will be from 6:30 am to 4 pm.
The Elk Creek Visitor Center is open 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Hours will expand into the weekend as soon as staffing is available.
The South Rim drive is open at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, allowing access to all viewpoints. Be prepared for muddy conditions.
The North Rim Drive has not yet dried out enough to open, but we are monitoring its progress and will open it as soon as we can do so. East Portal Road remains closed as well.
The South Rim Campground is open, but water is not yet available. The Visitor Center is open 9 am to 4 pm daily through May 6. Hours will expand once seasonal staffing is available.
