PUBLIC COMMENT SOUGHT

Park Superintendent Connie Rudd announced today that Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area are beginning a management plan for wilderness and backcountry for both parks.

“The plan will explore and address many issues,” said Rudd. “It should provide park managers with a tool to evaluate existing conditions and define desired future conditions consistent with park purposes. Public comment and involvement is vital in helping planners identify issues and provide ideas for possible strategies to address those issues.”

The public scoping brochure for this process, as well as topic questions to inform comments, are available on the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/blca or comments can be emailed to BLCA_BackcountryPlan@nps.gov or mailed to National Park Service, Attn: Backcountry/Wilderness Plan, 2465 S Townsend Ave, Montrose, CO 81401.

Comments that follow the topic questions will be most useful to planners.

The comment period has been extended through May 31, 2010.
