Trails Sorted by Type

Big Thicket National Preserve has a mix of hiking trail types:

  • Loop: Follows a circular path that takes you back to the beginning without having to retrace your steps.
  • Out-and-back: Turn around and retrace your steps when you reach the end of the trail.
  • Out-and-back and loop combination: Shaped like a lollipop; includes an out-and-back section that connects with a loop.
  • Through-hike: A hike that can begin and end at different trailheads if a car shuttle is available.
