Big Thicket National Preserve Superintendent Wayne Prokopetz announced today that in preparation for Tropical Storm Cindy’s arrival in Southeast Texas, the preserve will suspend the issuing of all backcountry camping permits and other special use permits in the preserve until further notice.

Visitors and local residents are encouraged to exercise extreme caution while exploring the preserve over the next few days. High winds may blow down trees and block trails with forest debris. Visitors should anticipate that creeks, rivers and intermittent drainages throughout the region will likely swell with water runoff from this significant storm system.  Do not enter swollen water-ways or cross flooded roads.
