With over 25,000 visitors each year, the Blue Heron mining area and interpretive center offers many recreational and educational opportunities on the Kentucky side of Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. From boating to hiking and ranger-guided programs, there is much to explore in this area.
The park is currently accepting applications from those interested in providing food services at the Blue Heron facility, located at the Blue Heron Mining Community, in Kentucky. The operation has a full-size kitchen area with outdoor dining facilities. For more information about the Blue Heron area, please go to https://www.nps.gov/biso/learn/historyculture/blueheron.htm.
Information about the permitting process, as well as the business application, is available online at https://www.nps.gov/biso/getinvolved/commercial-visitor-services.htm. Applications are due no later than March 31, 2018.
